Explain why unions had little success during the period 1871-1900 in improving the economic and social position of U.S. workers

the union had little sucess in the 1870s, in improving thing economic and social positions of the u.s workers. the union instead of working together they took eachothers jobs, never working together on anything. they could never out way the power and the amount of money the bigger companies held over there heads. the government never supported the weak small union they government always supported the big powerful companies, also the union had some public reaction problems, they were radicals always doing something wrong making a fool of themselves.
